The loud chants of “Spidey! Spidey!” greeted each actor’s arrival. Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, 46, who plays new villain Electro in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was the first to step onto the red carpet.
The lovely Emma Stone, who plays Spidey’s girlfriend Gwen Stacey, was next to show up.
As the main star of the night, Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield, followed suit, the chants and screams from the hundreds who had gathered at the Marina Bay Sands Skating Rink yesterday reached a dizzying, deafening crescendo. “SPIDEEEEEY! SPIDEEEEY!”
The trio lapped it all up, smiling, waving, signing autographs and taking selfies with thrilled fans.
At one point, Garfield, 30, was asked if he was wearing his Spidey suit underneath.
To which he playfully undid a few buttons on his shirt to show... his chest.
The screams got louder.
“This is really overwhelming,” said Stone, 25, to the gathered fans at a short question-and-answer session on the red carpet.
“Thank you for coming out and loving us and this movie as much as we do. I’m having such a great time.” Garfield also thanked everyone profusely for welcoming them with such open arms.
The stars were here to promote The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which opens here on May 1. They were joined by director Marc Webb and producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach.
The group was also here to be part of the Earth Hour 2014 events, which will see Garfield and Foxx giving a talk on sustainability at Commonwealth Secondary School today.
The events will culminate with the cast switching off the lights across the Marina Bay skyline at The Float@Marina Bay at 8.30pm tomorrow — part of WWF-Singapore’s flagship Earth Hour event.
