Participants set off before sunrise from the Singapore Press Holdings News Centre at Toa Payoh, led by a convoy of nine Jeeps. Each team was equipped with a loan set of the Marbella Geomate 500 GPS navigator, and given a road book with clues to the checkpoints.

The 120 participating SUVs in the 450-km adventure drive to Kuala Lumpur hand to go through four game checkpoints and an off-road segment at Tanamera estate in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. At the privately-owned forested estate, participants tucked in at a buffet lunch spread under a picnic marquee while awaiting their turn to have a go at a specially constructed obstacle course.

There were two compulsory off-road stations to score points. One required the driver of each team to reverse their SUV in a figure-eight circuit within 45 seconds without knocking down cones. In the second, the driver was required to park at the top of a slope and take down five targets with a paintball gun while seated inside the car. Participants also had the chance to drive through a 0.5m-deep trench filled with muddy water.

The final destination was the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel, where they spent the night. The annual event is organised by The New Paper. This year’s edition, the eighth, was managed by Pitcrew Events.
