Although I’m Chinese by race, it didn’t stop my supervisors from sending me to Mediacorp Studios last Tuesday (15 Jan 2013) for a Malay beauty-cum-talent show.

It was then that I found out that “Ratu” actually meant “Queen” in Malay.

While I can’t really understand what was going on for the two hour Malay broadcast, friends and families of contestants cheered on in the basement TV studio adding to the atmosphere from the “live” show.

In the end, Miss Fatin Amira Abdul Aziz, 20, was crowned as the first-ever Ratu, winning $10,000 in cash, a talent management contract with MediaCorp and a one-year ambassador stint for RitaBella beauty products.
