The Punggol East by-election might be the fourth election Singapore witnessed in the last 20 months; it is by no means a boring affair for us photojournalists.
Prior to yesterday’s nomination, we were told to photograph all candidates that would be turning up at the nomination center – including any possible “surprises” – apart from the previous six that have signalled their intention to stand.
The six were Dr Koh Poh Koon of People’s Action Party (PAP), Lee Li Lian of Worker’s Party (WP), Desmond Lim of Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA), Kenneth Jeyaretnam of Reform Party (RP) and independent candidates Ooi Boon Ewe and Zeng Guoyuan.
We were really thankful that the weather had shown mercy yesterday as compared to the last few nomination days where the searing sun would really drain us out.
Alas, the two independents didn’t end up standing for the by-election, but there were no short of interesting developments – which was reported in the print copy.
